Story
Thanks so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Since donating one of my kidneys to my husband, Martin, just over four years ago, I’ve wanted to set myself a physical challenge to test out the theory that one kidney really is enough! I thought about supporting one of the excellent kidney charities, but my heart was set on fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Society in memory of my wonderful Mum, who died in 2013 at the age of 90. Mum had lived with vascular dementia for the last ten years of her life and it had been heart breaking for us as a family to lose her to this cruel disease. During those difficult years we benefited so much from the information, support and practical advice we received from the Alzheimer’s Society.
In July 2017 I’ll be cycling from London to Paris to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society which does such a great job at supporting people with dementia today as well as funding research to find a cure for
tomorrow.
It would mean so much to me if you were able to support me in this challenge. I’m funding the trip myself so that any donation you make would go straight to the Alzheimer’s Society.
Here are some examples of how your donations could help people with dementia:
- £5 could fund one person to attend a half hour session at a Dementia Café, providing information and support for people withdementia as well as their carers.
- £20 could fund 100 copies of the Alzheimer’s Society’s most requested factsheet “Understanding and respecting the person with dementia”.
- £50 could fund a National Dementia Helpline Advisor for an hour as they offer practical advice and emotional support to people living dementia, their carers, families and friends.
