UPDATE MONDAY 5TH AUGUST 2013........
So, yesterday saw us in London at dawn, lining up with 19,998 seemingly foolish individuals for a 100 mile ride round the capital and deepest, darkest Surrey.
We had an absolute blast going through Westminster at first light, slipstreaming other riders to save our legs for the hills of Surrey.
Climbing 3 big hills (Box Hill, Leigth Hill and another one I don't remember the name of!) took it out of our legs, and we slogged on, coming back into London via Dorking, Leatherhead, Kingston, Wimbledon and Putney.
We managed to get our heads down again for a flying finish, passing through Trafalgar Square and under Admiralty Arch where we could hear the crowds on the Mall. It wasn't quite a sprint finish to Buckingham Palace, but the atmosphere as we crossed the line together after 100 miles was absolutely brilliant.
We'd rather optimistically targeted a sub-6 hour finish time for the ride, which meant our pace was going to have to be pretty quick. Our final time, however, was quite surprising - [unofficially] 5 hours, 24 minutes.
We're now collecting in our off-line sponsorship money and wanted to thank everyone who has supported us and been so kind. You've been very generous to allow us to get past our target, and we really appreciate it.
Of course, the page is still open for donations, so if you've not quite got round to giving yet, please feel free!
We know the Cardiomyopathy Association (CMA) will do great things with your money - they're only a small charity and your cash will count to help those with heart muscle disease.
Thanks again,
Stephen Bennett & Russell Gordon
