Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Our 14 year old son Joel Massey suffered a sudden cardiac arrest on 12/04/14 whilst out with his friends in the village of Much Marcle. Luckily Joels friends raised the alarm and were able to perform CPR whilst awaiting the paramedic crew. Joel had a pre existing heart arrhythmia condition, Wolff Parkinson White Syndrome, and needed two shocks from the Paramedics Automatic External Defibrillator [AED] to restart his heart.
Living in the countryside is fantastic but a downside is that in emergency situations the distance and time taken for paramedic crews to arrive with their lifesaving skills and equipment can reduce the survival chances and increase the risk of long term damage to the individual.
Therefore, we are raising money initially to ensure that we have a public access AED in our village of Much Marcle, in order that civilians on the scene can provide this crucial lifesaving equipment whilst awaiting the paramedics. If we are successful in raising more money than we need for the Much Marcle AED then hopefully we can support other local rural locations through this fundraising to get AED there. We are raising the money directly for the Arrhythmia Alliance who will work with us to provide the AED and liase with the West Midlands Ambulance Service to ensure that training in CPR and AED use are given alongside.
