Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am asking for your help in raising as much money as possible for Macmillan Cancer Support (Reg Charity: 261017)
The work they do is truly amazing, starting with the simplest of
things, just someone to talk too or a lift to the hospital, which we as a
family took advantage of nearly 20 years ago when my father passed away after
losing his battle with a rapidly spreading bowel cancer.
I was 15 years old when my Dad was diagnosed - prior to his diagnosis I had seen him as a giant of a man, full of life. Within 6 months he was reduced to a mere shadow of the man my little sister and I knew.
Macmillan can't perform magic but they did make a very difficult time for us that little bit easier.
Macmillan support patients and families by funding nurses and specialist health care professionals, by building cancer care centres and also providing financial help and advice.
They need our support!
The charity desperately needs our support, in 2012 98% of their income was made up of donations and fundraising, allowing them to spend £111million. This is an amazing figure and is £6 million more than in 2011.
We would love to keep that trend going and raise as much money as possible to support Macmillan.
What are we doing?
In February 2015 a group of 5 friends and I are going to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. We aim to do this in 7 days following the Rongai route.
In preparation for climbing Kilimanjaro we are training whenever possible, whether it's walking running or going to the gym.
To get 'some' idea of what we will be faced with we are taking part in the 3 Peaks challenge this month. This entails climbing the three highest peaks in England, Scotland & Wales, Scarfell Pike, Ben Nevis and Snowdon. To add some extra pressure to the challenge we intend to achieve this in 24 hours (including driving between the peaks).
In addition to the above we will also be hosting a charity ball in our local town hall with live music and a raffle.
How can you help?
Well, I have set myself the task of raising £10,000 between now and March next year so any donation to my Just Giving page would be fantastic.
If you would prefer to donate a raffle prize rather than make a monetary donation then this would also be hugely appreciated.
Please help us to raise as much money as possible in order for Macmillan to continue their incredible work, believe me, they really do make a difference.
