Story
Hi
I’m writing to ask for your help to enable me to raise vital funds for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.
In four weeks time, on Saturday 11th September, I will run the Somerset Levels and Moors Marathon (SLAMM). This is a cross-country event and my first marathon, so naturally I’m a little nervous. To prepare I have been following an 14 week training programme, which so far has included a 10km competitive event, 3 half marathons and a 20 mile training run. It’s been going well.
I’ve chosen to support the DSAA because I think they do very good work. It’s a recognised local charity totally reliant on public funding to meet its £1.4M operational costs each year. In 2009 their magnificent Eurocopter flew 982 missions, carrying 430 people to hospital. With its ability to reach anywhere in the two counties within 19 minutes of receiving an emergency call, the time saved by this mobile lifeline can really make the difference between life and death.
The Dorset and Somerset region is a wonderful part of the world. Its wild areas such as Exmoor, the Blackdowns, Quantocks, Somerset Levels and the Jurassic Coast inspire all who visit, yet their very remoteness means that anyone, one day, could desperately need the services of the DSAA. Indeed it’s already come to the rescue of two people I know. That’s why it is so important to keep it going!
I’m planning to visit as many of you as possible over the next few weeks to raise sponsorship. Alternatively, you may support me through my page on the Just Giving website.
Please support me, as much as you can, as I try to raise funds for this worthwhile local cause.
