Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
It is an honour to support The Christie. I have a very deep connection as firstly it is the hospital where my mum passed away. The dedication of the staff that always treated my mum with such care, dignity and respect was outstanding. They supported us as a family then...a few years later to our bewilderment we found ourselves walking a similar path again.
In Oct 2018 nearly three years to the day that I will run the Manchester half marathon I found “a lump”. It was stage 3 malignant melanoma (skin cancer). Walking the same corridors this time to see a different specialist cancer team was very emotional and scary ...amazingly they have literally saved my life.
Cancer treatment is beyond gruelling on every level emotionally, physically and spiritually and touches you and all those around you deeply. I owe all the staff and research teams especially within ovarian and melanoma teams so so much. This is my simple way of giving back and saying thank you so they can continue to support and treat so many more people.
I feel it is a miracle I can now run as at one point I could barely walk. I am still a Christie patient and will be for many more years. Please support one of the most amazing hospitals for all they do for all those with cancer.
I am running for my mum, Marilyn Cohen, Shirley Nesbitt, Aunty Avril who are all in heaven, for me to remember how lucky I am to be alive, for all my Melanomamates (some of who have sadly passed) and for all those who have been touched by or suffered from cancer.
A special thanks goes to:
- Professor Lorigan and his team especially Dr Gupta, Sam & Jackie specialist cancer nurses.
- Professor Jayson and his team.
- All the staff at The Christie and especially the staff that undertake the scans.
- My family and friends.
- All of you that donate
Thank you from my the bottom of my heart
