Story
It's been 13 years since we sadly lost our dad Trevor to an aggressive cancer that was incurable and progressed quickly from the time of diagnosis to his passing.
The few months we had left with him were incredibly difficult but we made it our duty to make him feel as comfortable as possible. This included being involved with The Hospice Of The Good Shepherd.
It was our dad's wish to spend his final days there and we can't thank them enough for how well they cared for him during this time.
The Hospice provides end-of-life palliative care in a compassionate, dignified, and pain-free environment. We were always welcomed there as visiting family, any time of day, and spent as long as we liked with Dad during his final days. They helped keep him clean, fed, and most importantly, let him out for cigarette breaks!
Hospice of the Good Shepherd provides its services free of charge to its patients and costs £5.1million to run each year with just 20% of the funding we receive coming from statutory sources. The remaining 80% is raised from a range of fundraising activities and the support of our generous local community in Cheshire.
I started running as a hobby just over 2 years ago and have recently completed the Chester Half Marathon, I am constantly looking for the next challenge and have decided to go all out and tackle the London Marathon with Team Hospice Of The Good Shepherd.
I will also be posting some exciting fundraising events over the coming months to help achieve the target!
The Marathon is 26.2 Miles (42km) and I will be training with the aim of completing the course in around 4 hours.
