Story
I am running 1,000 miles over the course of 2020 to raise awareness of the Bosnian Genocide. This is the equivalent of the journey from London to Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Prior to the outbreak of Covid-19, I was organising a delegation of educators to visit Bosnia, with the charity Remembering Srebrenica, to learn more about the genocide that took place in the 1990's. I had planned to do my daily run in Bosnia down 'Sniper Alley', the street that had notoriously been targeted in Sarajevo during the war. However, now the delegation has been postponed, I wanted to ensure I continued my challenge and raised awareness whilst doing so.
As a former war crimes investigator, Remembering Srebrenica Community Champion and North West Regional Board Member, I regularly speak in schools and prisons about the consequences of hatred and have embarked upon this fundraising challenge to raise awareness of the Bosnian Genocide and the dangers of hatred and intolerance going unchecked.
