Story
About us:
Our team is made up of four dentists: Stuart Campbell, Derek Marner, Ryan Stewart and Paddy Watson .
We connected via the shared pursuit of running very long and sometimes irrational distances.
The challenge:
On 30th September we will be running the length of Scotland from John o’ Groats to Gretna Green, a distance of almost 500 miles in 11 days... not quite as good as ‘The Proclaimers’ but then again they walked it!
So this works out as nearly a double marathon a day, every day for over 10 days. Sounds straightforward enough, right?
Why are we doing this?
The effects of COVID-19 have, as we all know, made life very tough for many in the past few years, and sadly we understand that mental health charities have been busier than ever.
As dentists living in Scotland, we wanted to raise awareness and money for the Scottish Association for Mental Health Charity (SAMH) to help support the great work that they do. But we also want to promote the positive effects that running and the great outdoors can have on not just physical health, but also mental health.
SAMH:
SAMH is Scotland’s national mental health charity. Whether you’re living with a mental health problem or supporting someone who is, SAMH are there to help.
Today, in over 60 communities they work with adults and young people providing mental health social care support, services in primary care, schools and further education, among others. These services together with their national programme work in See Me, respectme, suicide prevention and active living; inform their policy and campaign work to influence positive social change.
Thank you very much for reading. Any donations you make will make a huge difference to the great work that SAMH continue to do,
Stuart, Ryan, Derek and Paddy.
