As many of you know I (Rach) have written a fair few JustGiving pages in my time and you may have been kind enough to donate only recently to my Great North Swim page.
Usually I give information about the charity so you can see why it’s worth you parting with your money. This just giving page is a little different for me and certainly the hardest I’ve had to write.
Earlier this year I went up to Lancaster to visit my family for a little break, but things didn’t go according to plan. I’ll save you the long story but after a fairly horrific few days we found out that my amazing father didn’t just have a bad back, but he had a tumour pressing on his spine. The cause of this tumour? Prostate Cancer.
It’s safe to say none of us ever for one minute considered this could be the cause of dad’s bad back. Like many we assumed the more obvious causes, maybe a slipped disc or over doing it gardening in his retirement.
That’s why, although I want to raise money to help Prostate Cancer UK do their amazing work, a large part of what I am aiming for with this event and training is to simply raise awareness of the little man badge, and encourage you all to get the men in your life to go and get tested.
The earlier prostate cancer is found the better. It doesn’t have to be the embarrassing physical examination you may be thinking of, it can be identified by a blood test now. So please encourage the men in your life to go to their GP or go to a free PSA testing event in your local area.
If you do chose to donate, thank you! Together we can hopefully ease the battle for men around the country.
A huge thank you had to go Kerrianne for supporting me with this event and no doubt dragging me over the various obstacles we will encounter across the 10 mile run!
