Story
On the 27 September 2015, I will be running the Berlin Marathon to raise money for the Bipolar UK. I would so appreciate you taking the time to read my page - and even more so if you decide to donate!
The Inspiration!
As many of you will you know, in November 2014, my dear friend Joanna Maycock committed suicide, aged just 24, after a hard-fought battle against Bipolar Disorder.
To myself and many of her friends she was just Jo. Fearless and funny little Jo. Her bipolar was a part of herself that she wore on her sleeve. She was looking forward to her wonderland inspired wedding this year and the life that would follow. There are no words other than to say that we are just devastated to lose her.
The Charity
So a group of her closest friends and I have decided to embark upon some fundraising for the charity BipolarUK in an effort to support their phone lines, community forums and outreach work for people, especially young people, who battle with this misunderstood, unseen and underfunded illness.
The Challenge!
It all begins with a Superhero-themed 10k in May 2015 (for which there is a group page and I would love for you to check that out as well: https://www.justgiving.com/muppetsassemble)
But Jo faced a mental and physical challenge every day, and she was a superhero. So to do justice to her, I want to push my boundaries for this amazing cause. So I will be taking my superhero costume on to the Berlin Marathon to run a few extra miles in honour of this wonderful person. I’m trying to raise an extra £750 and I will be so completely grateful for every penny that is donated to this fantastic charity.
Thank you so much for reading, all donations will be gratefully received.
(ps. all the costs to go to Berlin are paid by me so every penny donated will be for Bipolar UK and their great work)
No one is finally dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away - until the clock he wound up winds down, until the wine she made has finished its ferment, until the crop they planted is harvested. The span of someone's life, they say, is only the core of their actual existence." Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett
