Story
Hi everyone!
The last two years have been tough for everyone mainly as a result to that unspeakable virus that's either prevented us seeing loved ones, or losing them in the process. It's because of this in part that I'll be running the Brighton Marathon in April.
I honestly don't know why there is such a stigma about speaking out about mental health when we can speak openly about other illnesses and difficulties we may have. There is no rule book for mental health, no steps to avoid anxiety or depression. Your brain has it's own agenda and it's down to us to seek help to figure that out by speaking to friends, family and professionals.
I myself have suffered mental health issues in truth for a lot longer than I was willing to admit and via the support of my counsellor and close friends, it's a lot more manageable. Do I have the odd wobble still? 1000%. But being able to open up about mental health is a sign of strength not weakness. There shouldn't be a stigma, so don't acknowledge that there's one.
THAT virus aside, and what it's done mentally for me, the other main reason I'm running is for my friend's parents John and Sue. They have always supported me in any runs or challenges I've taken on and their unwavering and voluntary support for Thurrock Mind over the years is something we should all do a bit more of.
I'm not looking for a time, or even to enjoy this marathon, it's one I want to do to raise awareness and funds for a charity that are worthy of our attention when everyone has had their own ups and downs for the last 2 years.
If you can spare any funds towards my efforts, but more importantly Thurrock Mind then all donations are welcome and gratefully received. Thank you for your support as always
