Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
When me and Owen were told we were expecting another little child in July 2017 we couldn’t of been happier, having three girls and a boy already our new little one would complete our family and love for children. However no one told us, or prepared us for the troublesome pregnancy months that followed. At our 20 week scan we were told that our little girl was not growing or gaining any weight and was told we needed to speak to a consultant. From then on things got quite hectic, after meeting our first consultant and having yet more scans we were transferred to John Radcliffe hospital. That’s where it all began, genetic testing, heart scans ( our baby’s heart was enlarged and stressed) and growth scans week after week. Each week we hoped and prayed that she would be growing and gaining weight, 25grams each week was our target. We’d already had the discussions with the doctors about what would happen when she was to be born, would she survive? The answer clearly was we will have to wait and see. While she was inside, I was in control and we fought!
I got taken into hospital on 26th April with pre clampsia and was told I would need a c section as it was too dangerous for our daughter to stay in any longer.
On 9th May, 8 weeks early and weighing 2Ib 4oz Senna May Lewis was born. She let out a big cry ( we were told not to expect any sounds) and from then on we knew she was going to be a little fighter. She was put on a ventilator and taken straight to intensive care on Buscot ward. I had to stay in recovery for a few hours, so Owen went straight to be with her. We couldn’t hold her for the first few days so we both had to bond looking through the incubator. Day by day she got stronger and stronger, We think one because she is our little miracle but the staff and nurses on the ward also helped immensely. Touching and changing a nappy of a tiny baby, is very daunting but the nurses showed us how and calmed our nerves. No matter what time of day they were there on hand and took the job of me and Owen into their hands and cared for Senna 24/7. After 1 month senna was able to come home, and be with her sisters and brother and is doing brilliant.
We are running this half marathon together in honour of the Staff, nurses and medical team on Buscot Ward, and also to raise awareness of the ward, and the hard work they put in. Our aim is to raise enough funds to help towards the equipment used on these special tiny babies as without them we may not be telling this story. We are FOREVER in their debt! Please help us by donating and you too can be part of saving tiny lives.
