Fundraising for Therapies & Equipment & Medical treatment

Story

In August last year our friends Kayleigh and Joe had their second baby.  They welcomed a gorgeous little boy called Oscar.

When only days old Oscar was diagnosed with a very rare genetic condition called Spinal Muscular Atrophy type 1 (SMA).  Oscar received ground breaking gene therapy when he was  24 days old, and since then his life has been a whirlwind of medical appointments, including trips to Italy to receive further treatment.

Oscar is the second person close to us to be affected by a rare genetic condition causing muscular degeneration.  The first was our wonderful friend Chris, who I met at university.  Chris would read about the advances in gene therapy and although he knew he unfortunately wouldn't be able to benefit he was so excited about how it would help the next generation.  I know Chris would have loved Oscar and would have been routing for him every step of the way.

So, this brings me to the point of this post, Greg will be running a marathon and I will be running a half marathon to raise some funds for Oscar's going treatment and also awareness of SMA.  We will be running for Oscar whilst thinking of our friend Chris.

If you are able to donate in these challenging times, thank you.  And here is Oscar's insta page to find out more and follow his journey
