We support young people at risk of suicide to stay safe and find hope in times of need

Story

October 13th 2019 marks three years since my little sister Miranda took her own life. It also, this year, marks the date of the annual Oxford Half Marathon.

Miranda would have been turning 22 years old this summer, finishing her third year at University.

October 13th is a difficult date for all of us and running a half marathon isn't going to make it any easier. I know that running means lots of things, to lots of different people, but to me it signifies being close to my sister.

So this year, I will be running the Oxford Half Marathon. I have been really struggling with injury since February so it's not going to be easy.
But it is to acknowledge everything that this year was meant to be for her, with each step wishing that she was still here.

Suicide is the biggest killer of young people under 35 in the UK. PAPYRUS is the national charity for the prevention of young suicide and believes that many young suicides are preventable. They operate HOPELINEUK, a confidential call, text, and email helpline for young people with thoughts of suicide or those concerned about a young person who may have thoughts of suicide. Every £5 raised can help pay for a potentially life-saving contact to HOPELINEUK from a young person wanting to stay safe from their thoughts of suicide. Thank you.
