Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. Helen and I are new to this running event lark and we are hoping to make it round the Manchester 10K in one piece!! We are running for the The Young Oncology Unit at The Christie Hospital, Manchester.
This is why we need your donations- Cancer and other conditions treated at The Christie can be devastating at any time in a person's life but none more so than in the teenage and early adult years. It's an age where you're finding out about yourself and others, what life holds and more often than not are still in education that will set you up in your future career. That's why the specialist services provided by the Y.O.U. are so important. They give teenagers and young adults up to the age of 24 specialist care and support during their most difficult life transition.
The Christie is planning to build a new Young Oncology Unit as a joint project with the Teenage Cancer Trust. It will be a national lead for clinical service, education and research- and "an international beacon of excellence". The unit will continue to concentrate on the needs of teenagers and young adults.
Our family has personal experience of the Y.O.U. and the amazing care and facilities it offers to patients. The Christie relies on donations and every penny will be gratefully received for this very special unit.
