Story

Thank you so much for your incredible support 🙏

We did it!!! On Saturday 23 May, the 30th day of Ramadan, I completed the 260th km of my challenge. We raised over £52,000 and the donations are still flying in. Together we can transform even more lives, so please keep the donations coming.

My final 10k was streamed live on my facebook page, and you can now watch this back on Youtube at the top of this page.

Absolutely overwhelmed with your support. Follow my journey and catch my reflections on IG: www.instagram.com/haroonmota & FB: www.facebook.com/haroonmota

Sat 23 May - (30 Ramadan)

Total distance completed: 260km

Distance remaining: 0km

*************

As it's Ramadan right now I've been thinking of ways to push myself. The #TwoPointSixChallenge couldn't have landed at a better time. I'm challenging myself to run 260 km this Ramadan whilst fasting. We can't drink or eat from Dawn (3am), until sunset (9pm) - that means no food or drink for 18 hours and completing a 10k run every day whilst fasting. I'll be completing all of my runs just before sunset to ensure it's an entirely fasted challenge (I have to make it difficult for myself of course).

Managing hydration, energy levels, fatigue and potential injury become even more difficult in these circumstances. This is going to be extremely tough but I'll push myself and I'm very determined to reach my goals for the sake of charity insha Allah!

I hope to raise £50,000 to help people facing crisis, war and displacement in places like Syria, Gaza & Yemen. Overcrowded populations and grossly inadequate `health infrastructures makes the threat of COVID-19 tearing through refugee camps and poverty-stricken areas potentially catastrophic to these already vulnerable people.

Please donate now and share my cause to help protect people at extreme risk of the coronavirus - it would mean a lot to have your support!!
Donations are Zakat applicable too! Thank you!

**********

This year, I've set myself a massive challenge to run 4 World Major Marathons, hoping to raise £25,000 for Penny Appeal's Emergency Response programmes to help people who are facing crisis, war and displacement.

I'm running because I know that I can make a difference, with your help.

There are over 70 million forcibly displaced people around the world.  In the entire history of humanity, there have never been this many people who have been forced to flee from terrifying wars and devastating natural disasters.

This is the new norm, but there's nothing normal about it. These are everyday people; mothers, sons, neighbours. Entire communities.

I choose to run, but they have no choice.

That's why I'm running; in solidarity with the millions of innocent people who are forced to flee their homes and rebuild their lives, every single day.

27 September - BERLIN Marathon

4 October - LONDON Marathon

11 October - CHICAGO Marathon

1 November - NEW YORK Marathon

Last year, I visited Cox's Bazar, the largest refugee camp in the world. It was very overwhelming; like nothing I've ever experienced before, standing amongst 1 million refugees. Bamboo huts & shelters as far as my eyes could see. The pain, the misery, and trauma...you could feel it and see it in their eyes.

I returned home even more driven and committed to help their plight, and this why I'm running for them.

I started training just before Christmas and I'm currently running at least 5 times a week, and have already ran over 500 miles in training already, and I'm ready for the challenge ahead. The next 10 months are going to be extremely exhausting, and very demanding, but I know this is the change I must make to help those suffering around the world.

Your donations could help protect and save thousands of families from the devastating effects of natural disasters and conflict. War, famine, disease, poverty & climate change have immobilised the Rohingya & Uyghur refugees, internally displaced people in Yemen, Syria, Gaza, and also Mozambique and Malawi after Cyclone Idai. Penny Appeal need your support to be able to deploy life-saving medical aid, food, clothing, sanitation and shelter to those who've been left incredibly vulnerable.

“Whoever saves a life, it is as if he has saved the whole of mankind” (Qur’an 5:32)

It would mean a lot to have your support, so please follow my journey and donate as much or as little as you can.

Donations are Zakat applicable too! Thank you!
