Thunder Run 24 Hours 2013 · 27 July 2013 ·
Some weeks ago spontaneity struck and I agreed to participate in THUNDER RUN 24! If I'm honest I signed up without reading about the event but understood that it involved team members taking turns to run 10k's (6.25 miles) over a period of 24 hours. I joined a team desperately in need of another person and I thought to myself, "Hey, this doesn't sound too bad...I'm in!”
After sending off my entrance fee I read this from the TR24 website (http://www.tr24.co.uk/venue.html):
"The track twists and turns across varied terrain so you'll find yourself running from bogs and forests to steep hills and open fields".
This is when the penny dropped for me. I suddenly realised that I had unwittingly signed up to run a cumulative 18 + miles up steep hills and through bogs in a team of 7 people that I’ve not met before. Moreover, due to this being a 24 hour event, chances are I'll be doing this in the dark and losing my camping virginity into the bargain!
I'm the first to profess that I'm not the world’s best runner. I don't find it easy and I'm neither speedy nor graceful. In fact my PE teacher once said I ran like a demented ostrich. Given this and the enormity of the challenge I'm facing - it'd be great if you could encourage me by donating to my chosen charity: Macmillan Cancer.
