Dear Friends,
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page, in support of the Brain and Spine Foundation.
Some of you will know that my beautiful, talented and much loved youngest sister, Susie, died on 1st Aug 2004 from Motor Neurone disease aged 32. Sue, amongst many other fabulous attributes, was always a giver and a force for good in her short time on the planet.
Like most people, I was at a loss to know what to do to bring something good from such a tragic event, but it dawned on me whilst out for a run that perhaps I could raise funds on Sue's behalf by running the London Marathon. I didn't actually get a place at first, but persevered when I felt that Susie was giving me a nudge and was rewarded with a place running for the Brain and Spine Foundation.
Please dig deep and sponsor me online; I am doing this in Susie's memory and on her behalf. The funds go to the Brain and Spine Foundation, which does fantastic work in support of the victims and families of neurological diseases.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Brain and Spine Foundation will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Many thanks for your kindness, friendship and support.
Liz x
POST RACE UPDATE - 18th April (The morning after)
I DID IT, YIPYAH!
All went swimmingly well (if a little slowly down there at the back) for the first 14 miles. I felt fab. Then my dodgy hamstring went ping. I was in a lot of pain for a while, but reckoned that if i let St John's Ambulance get their mits on me I'd be strapped to a wheelchair and force-fed Kendal mint cake, which I didn't fancy. So I was a brave little soldier, and modified my style to the old lady scoopy shuffle, put my head down and went for it. I finished fractionally over the 6 hours and was overtaken by 3 Cornish Pasties and a Computer, but I beat the pants of the man in the space suit. And I wore my medal in the bath last night!
We have raised stacks of cash for Susie. I think she'd be rather chuffed with this - thanks a million. I couldn't have done it without your support. Love, Liz x
