Story
This crazy fundraising attempt was the brain child of Ben Tye who along with myself Dan Ashley has raised thousands of pounds for stillbirth charities in the last 10 years. This year we are raising money for SANDS.
The Attempt
From the 13th-17th May we are running the length of The Grand Union Canal (145 miles). 29 miles a day for 5 days. Check out our website to GPS track us or for more information about the event.
The Team
This year myself (Dan Ashley), Ben Tye and Agnieszka Tye will be taking part in the
event.
WHY??
On the 17th May 2009 my daughter Ruby Emily Ashley was still born at 37 weeks gestation. This changed the lives of me and many people around me forever. I cannot begin to explain how this has affected my life, probably more than anyone will ever realise. I have put on a front for so long, I'm not even sure who I am anymore! Raising money to help other people is a major part of what keeps me going. I vowed from the day we lost Ruby that I wanted to make a difference. I wanted to stop this happening to other people or at least reduce the amount of times this happens. I also wanted to help get the people this affects (Parents, families, friends) the support and care they need following the unthinkable.
Myself and my wife Claire have supported the SANDS charity many times in the past. Attending events, raising money for charity, appearing on the website and Claire is a volunteer for the Bedford SANDS group.
In the past between me and Ben we've run numerous 10km's, played football at the mirates twice, played a 79 hour football match and completed ride 100. This event had to top all of them for Ruby's 10th birthday and I believe this is going to be the hardest thing we've ever done!
Why are Ben and Ags doing the event?? I honestly don't know, I think they are mad!! I just want to say a heartfelt thank you to both of them, especially to Ben, who has been by my side since day 1 and taken part in all of these crazy fundraising feats.
