Story

WE DID IT, WE DID IT, WE DID IT!!!!!!!

What a day! We successfully completed the Bupa Great North Run. It's been quite a journey for us from the beginnings of our fundraising and training to a wonderful sunny day in Newcastle finishing our first ever half marathon. Thank you, thank you, thank you to every single person that has sponsored us and given us their support. We're still collecting our sponsorship so watch this space, we'll be very close to £2,000 which is double our original target. Bring on next year - we did it for you, Mum and big sister, we know you had a good view of us, watched over us and brought the sunshine out for us. Love & Miss you always - your Road Runners x x x

Hello friends, family and colleagues,

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor us online.

On Sunday 5th October 2008, we will be taking part in the world's biggest half marathon, the Great North Run - a 13.1 mile run from Newcastle to South Shields.

Why are we mad enough to do this to ourselves?!

Many of you will have known in person or heard about Gill (Helen's Sister & Rachel's Mum) and it is in her memory that we are running. Sadly, Gill was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma multiforme brain tumour and passed away in April 2004, aged just 46. Gill's brilliant sense of humour and her caring and selfless ways are missed by us greatly every day.

Our nominated charity, Cancer Research UK, are currently funding 4 brain tumour related clinical trials including advanced MRI scanning and recent research showing that people who have a glioblastoma multiforme brain tumour do better if they have a drug called temozolomide as well as radiotherapy.

1 in 3 people will be affected by cancer at some stage in their lives.

Each year in the UK, around 4,400 people are diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Brain and central nervous system tumours cause over 3,400 deaths each year in the UK.

Cancer Research UK works to carry out world-class research to improve our understanding of cancer and to find out how to prevent, diagnose and treat different kinds of cancer as well as helping to improve the lives of cancer patients.

By sponsoring us, you can help towards the global fight against cancer.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Cancer Research UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor us now!

Many thanks for your support.

Thanks also to all the kind people that are helping with our off-line fundraising and training.

Helen & Rachel
xx

PS. As well as being proud of us, no doubt Gill will be watching down on us and having a giggle at us puffing and panting running GNR08 for her....and god help us if, whilst running, it starts spittin'!
