Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Way back in 2013, I ran a marathon in order to raise money for MDUK, it was something my brother, Adam challenged me to do. We would often joke about how I wouldn't be able to finish it... I did! Since then I vowed never to do it again because of how tough it was and Adam would often make fun of me and challenge me to do another one. In July of this year, our family was faced with something much tougher. We suddenly and unexpectedly lost my younger Brother, Adam. He was an incredibly inspiring young man who taught me never to give up and to always face adversity with a cheeky smile and determined look. It has been an incredibly hard few months since we lost Adam and things don't get much easier but I am learning to let Adam's values and determination live on through me and my family in a way that he would have wanted. So here I am Adam, 9 years on, challenging myself in only a way you knew how.
Adam had a rare condition called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a neuromuscular condition caused by the lack of a protein called dystrophin. It is a serious condition that causes progressive muscle weakness which meant Adam had been in a wheelchair from the age of 10. About 100 boys with Duchenne muscular dystrophy are born in the United Kingdom each year and it is a very difficult illness to deal with on a day to day basis.
I have chosen to run the 2022 London Marathon in Adam's memory to raise money and awareness for this incredible charity, I thought running another Marathon would be a fitting tribute to such a fighter, an inspiration, and a fun lover like my Brother. MDUK is a charity that was close to Adam's heart and has helped us as a family over the years to face the challenges met each day by such an illness. I am super proud and honoured to be a part of #TeamOrange and can't wait to get my running shoes on again!
Muscular Dystrophy UK leads the search for treatments and cures for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. They provide expert advice and support for individuals and families living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, this is why I have chosen to take up this HUGE challenge.
