Story
Last summer my grandma Betty was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. When I found out I felt useless for not being able to do anything – yet another woman I love has been affected by this evil disease. She has now received treatment and has had successful surgery and is well on the road to recovery. If this had been 20 years ago it would be a different story. This fight against Cancer is getting stronger, research is working and detection is getting picked up sooner because of fundraising but it’s not enough, we need to keep going until we find the cure to beat it!
So, after much consideration (and wine) I decided that I wanted to do something in order to help raise more money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. So, I applied and was successful in gaining a spot to run in this years London Marathon! Yes, the London Marathon!!! I'll be taking part in a competitive half marathon and a kilomathon (26.2kms) before I get to the big one in April!
So my rather ambitious challenge has begun! There’s no turning back - my name is printed on the vest!
In the next few months, whilst pounding the streets of Stockport and getting super-duper fit, I’ll be arranging loads of events in order to have a bit of fun and raise much needed funds for this amazing charity.
This is where you come in – I need you to pledge your support in any way possible. Attend my events, hold your own or simply dig deep and donate now – a penny or a pound it all adds up!
I’ve started a Facebook group “Run Fat Girl Run” so follow the link and join in. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Run-Fat-Girl-Run/132980863415371
I want to do this, I know I can do this – for my brave grandma Betty, her much missed friend Val, for my godmother Joanne, for Shirley and for my friend Cheryl, not forgetting the other women that I know that may face this in the future or who have faced, fought or lost their battle with Cancer.
