Story

Well, I'm knocking on the door of the big 40 and it's time to realise a lifelong ambition - to be able to say "I've run the London Marathon". Only one challenge there then - to actually run it!

I'm overweight, never run more than 10k and not known for a consistent approach to fitness training. But, what I lack in sporting ability I make up for in ambition.

I've watched it on the TV for years. I've even been down to the course and cheered the runners on. Now it's my turn.

Take a good look at the picture on this page.

Benjamin and Thomas are my 6 year old twin godsons and Hector is their 4 year old brother. Aren't they gorgeous? They all have autism and they are my inspiration to do this.

I'm running the Flora London Marathon 2006 for the National Autistic Society. Around 1 in every 110 people in the UK are affected by Autism. This figure rises when you include the 2 million parents, carers and siblings whose lives can be drastically changed as a result of living with autism. The NAS has developed a large range of professional servicesto help. These projects are a valuable helpline and they need your support to continue.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: National Autistic Society will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor me now!

Many thanks for your support.
