Assalamualaikum beautiful people!

In the madness of the world it has been difficult for us to know where there are people who need us the most. Natural disasters are occurring everywhere and in the midst of all the darker days, many of us have long forgotten about the East African famine that has been continuing for almost 3 years and has been reoccurring throughout the last decade.

The harsh reality has meant that:

- Millions of people in East Africa are experiencing chronic hunger and the threat of famine
- Conflict, recurring severe drought, and high food prices are to blame.
- 800,000+ people have fled their homes due to violence in south Ethiopia since the beginning of 2018.
- South Sudan, Somalia, and Ethiopia are facing high levels of food insecurity in various parts of their countries over the next few months
- 22 million people in East Africa need help to secure their livelihoods and acquire adequate food & 9 million children are in need of nutrition assistance.
- More than 15 million children in Ethiopia, Kenya, South Sudan, and Somalia are struggling to get enough to eat.
- 1 civilian has been killed every 3 hours in fighting in Yemen since the beginning of August, with many more people succumbing to disease and hunger. 
- Escalation in fighting in Hudaydah risks cutting off life-saving supplies for millions of Yemenis

Therefore I, a first year student nurse and many other amazing students will be going on a trek in Cadair Idris, Wales on the 17th of November 2018. All of the money raised will go to the As-Suffa institute which will then be received by the aid relief programmes within the areas of need.

So please, while we have the blessed opportunity to do so, donate whatever you can be it a pence or a pound. It is with great honour us students have the opportunity to do something that may be life changing for hundreds of other people, so join us and help the world while we still can.
