We are completing this Mighty Hike in memory of our Mum & Auntie Mary Rudkin who sadly passed away in August 2017.
Mum loved getting out for a walk whether it was a stroll along the beachfront on holiday or a hike in the Peak District. Anyone who has walked with Mum will know you were guaranteed entertainment and you’d leave with a story to tell or a saw jaw from laughing too much.
We walked with Mum along this coastline in 2011 on a family trip to Sandbanks so it makes it the perfect challenge to take on in support of Macmillan.
In August 2016 at the age of 56, our Mum was diagnosed with a stage 4 GBM (Brain Tumour) after having a seizure, completely out of the blue. The GBM was an aggressive and fast growing form of cancer which meant the prognosis was terminal. Our world was turned upside and we had no idea how to move forward or how to help our Mum.
Macmillan provided us with a cancer nurse almost immediately who helped and supported at every stage of Mum's journey. Macmillan provided invaluable support to our family with understanding & getting the diagnosis, treatment plan, pain relief & care. They provided guidance on every challenge we encountered - they were brilliant. Macmillan made sure that Mum had the right equipment and care in her own home to make it as easy as possible to be with her family when she needed us the most.
Please help us to raise money so other families can benefit from this wonderful charity and all the amazing work that they do to support cancer patients and their loved ones.
