Story
The Sussex Beacon supports people in Sussex who are living with HIV.
In 2020, I worked as a doctor at the Sussex Beacon and was amazed at the care and love given by the staff and even more amazed at some of the inspiring patients I met.
I have previously run the Brighton Half for The Sussex Beacon and now look to run my first Marathon with them. It is an amazing opportunity as the London race is iconic!
I know that both the generous donations I receive and the support I get on the day will be the motivation I need to get me through it so THANK YOU in advance!
Changes in medication now mean that an HIV diagnosis is no longer the issue it once was, however for the most vulnerable, its a constant challenge. Living with HIV you are much more likely to develop secondary conditions like diabetes, dementia, cardiovascular disease or kidney disease. Many of our patients need social care and help with their day to day lives as well as increasingly mental health support. A lot of our patients are also aging with HIV and are increasing frail and more prone to other infections. They are also more likely to be living alone or isolated and prone to depression and poor mental health. The Sussex Beacon is here offering specialised support for everyone living with HIV in Sussex.
