Fundraising for BVDA
Mulembe!
This summer I will be volunteering for 7 weeks in a village in the Manafwa district in Eastern Uganda with Bristol Volunteers for Development Abroad (BVDA). Alongside five other volunteers I will be working with a local NGO called Little Big Africa who set up projects, hand in hand with rural communities, that focus on needs-based, sustainable development. There are four phases to the projects and we will be involved in Phase 3 - Implementation. The four main goals of this are:
A critical part of the project is establishing & training committees so that progress can continue to be made long after we leave!
Any donations will go directly into the project and be spent on material costs for the construction, accommodation, an 8 day training course and transportation in Uganda. We cover personal costs such as flights and visas etc. ourselves.
This is a really worthwhile cause for a student-run charity that condemns "voluntourism" and aims to aid the self-development of a community by providing financial assistance, physical labour, education and training where appropriate. Please help me reach my target!
P.S. If you want some more information about BVDA or Little Big Africa please visit these sites for some really interesting reading!
