Story
I just lost my father to Bowel Cancer and this random event popped up on my Instagram account. For me,, it was a sign. A chance for me to tell my story and raise funds for more research into all forms of cancer. I’ve never boxed, I’m not a fighter, but I like fitness and I love a challenge. And here we are....😬
27 years ago my mother, Deryl Switzer was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. 6mths later my father, Ross Switzer, was diagnosed with Brain Cancer and given 5yrs to live. Lucky for us, they both fought the battle and have had much longer than expected. 5yrs ago my mother was diagnosed with Lung Cancer (and she has never smoked in her life) but they think the radiation treatment from her Breast Cancer has given her the Lung Cancer 20+yrs later. She’s had chemotherapy and is now in remission. 10mths ago my father was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer and on the 20/08/2019 he passed away. Just 2mths agl my Mum has discovered 2 more lumps in her breast and has now been diagnosed with Breast Cancer for the second time. She is now getting chemotherapy and will have a mastectomy in the new year. She has a hopeful and positive outlook for her long term prognosis.
Both my parents have fought the battle and now I’m going to fight for them. For my Dad who lost his battle but for my Mum so she keeps fighting and continues to love and live her life from this point onwards. I know I’m in the high risk category for developing cancer but we don’t know why and that’s where the research will be vital. I’m not the only one who has these kinds of stories, but I felt it was time to share. Please help me by raising funds for research and together maybe we can make a difference. 💕
Australian Cancer Research Foundation (ACRF) believe that a world without cancer is possible. It is a bold statement but one that we are committed to. We can’t do this without you. Every day our supporters help to accelerate what can be achieved by giving Australia’s best scientists the technology they need to end all cancers through better detection, prevention and treatment. Together we can end all cancers, and we won’t stop until we do. 👊🏼
This event takes me on an 8wk training program with Legends Gym in Sydney and for the first time ever in Australia the Boxing Ring Challenge will take place on December 7th at a Black Tie Event with tickets to be released for purchase soon. Meantime please give generously so I can reach my fundraising goal. 🙏
