Story
I co-founded Young Roots in 2004 when I was 25. I had no idea the charity would grow into the amazing organisation it is today. Last year Young Roots supported 739 young refugees from over 46 countries.
Young Roots does this through youth and sporting activities, 1:1 intensive casework support, access to English language mentoring, and to specialist legal and therapeutic support through our
expert partners.
Until 2021, I was part of the casework team supporting some of the most vulnerable young people in London, who coped with negotiating complex asylum and social care systems, struggled with missing family back home, learning English and often with homelessness and mental health problems. I have seen first hand how much difference having a 1:1 caseworker can make in changing a young refugee's life. But this takes long term, intensive support and Young Roots needs your support to continue offering this service.
- £10 could fund travel so that a young person can access activities and meetings with their solicitor
- £25
could fund a 1:1 intensive casework support session for a young person
to positively address complex challenges they face in their daily lives - £50 could pay for an interpreter to support a young person through the complexity of asylum interviews.
This is the first half marathon I've run since having my two daughters but I'm up for the challenge to raise much needed funds for Young Roots.
