Roy's snapping up money for Alzheimer's

raising money through photographs · 2 January 2019
Retired journalist, Roy Briggs, a carer for his wife Joyce who has dementia, came up with an unusual image of how to help raise funds for Alzheimer’s Society.
That image, or rather dozens of images, culminated in Roy raising £1,017 for the charity which Joyce once helped to run. A keen amateur photographer, he uses his respite time on countryside walks capturing shots of wildlife and recently started posting them on a local community site on Facebook.
Regular followers of his pictures gave him the idea to organise a photo exhibition with the object of selling prints. The display of approximately 150 pictures, combined with a Coffee Morning plus raffle, just before Christmas was well supported at a venue at Crowle, near Scunthorpe.
Roy says; ‘Back in the early 90’s Joyce, who helped nurse her mother with dementia, served as treasurer of the Society’s Richmond branch for a spell as well as helping out as a volunteer at a local day centre. ‘So I felt it would be nice to continue the good work on her behalf. Joyce has lost much of her mobility and can no longer accompany me on photo shoots, but I'm able to keep her in touch with nature via my pictures.'
Now he wants to boost the fundraising total to at least £2,000 which is why he's making this appeal. His recent images can be seen on his Facebook page and he is happy to supply any prints for a suitable donation.
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
