My name is Roxana Bratu and I am a beginner-runner. On the side, I do a PhD in Sociology at the London School of Economics and Political Science. My academic work is related to Criminology/Sociology of crime– I work on corruption in Romania. As I am now reaching the end of my studies (I really do need to submit my thesis soon!), I thought it would be a good idea to combine writing with running.

A few months ago my life changed completely as I found out that I got a place at the London Marathon. I decided to run for charity and Goodenough College was the obvious choice. Why? Because this is the most wonderful place to live in while you are a student in London. The support that I have received from this community throughout the years has made me feel less lonely in this big city. So, I thought it was about time to give something back and bring my contribution to the life in the College. I hope that the money raised would go for bursaries to support other people in need.

Running this marathon started as a challenge, became a seductive journey and would probably finish as a metaphysical confusion. Who knows, I might even become a true runner someday. In the meantime I train about six days a week and hope to make a nice race in April.
