Story
One cold winter's evening in 2022, the dad's of GHS Reception class gathered at a local pub for their regular catch up. The memory of the evening the following day was hazy but the WhatsApp group soon pieced together the detail where a few of us, including myself (allegedly), had agreed to do a 54-mile charity ride. An interesting revelation given that I had never ridden on the road before and didn't even own a bike!
Fast-forward to today, and I am excited about the challenge ahead. The opportunity to learn a new skill, to have some fun with my fellow teammates and ultimately to raise money for an incredibly worthy cause. I have less enthusiasm for the lycra but am somewhat comforted by the fact that at least I won't have to look at myself (I can't say the same for my teammates!). I also confess, I have enjoyed getting into the wonderfully techy and geeky world of bikes and biking gear. As of the time of writing this, I am the very definition of "all the gear, no idea". I have a super shiny bike and all the kit but haven't been on one bike ride...
To be more precise, I am joining thousands of others on June 18th, cycling the 54-mile epic city to coast route from London to Brighton for the British Heart Foundation. The BHF fund around £100 million of research each year into all heart and circulatory diseases and the things that cause them. Heart diseases. Stroke. Vascular dementia. Diabetes. They're all connected, and they're all under their microscope. Thousands of people every year are helped through the research the BHF do.
I would really appreciate your support and encouragement in the form of a donation to the BHF.
