Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Well - I made it - the whole 10 miles without having to walk! The time was a respectable, for me, 1 hr 52 mins and I did not feel too bad as I crossed the finish line. Having said that, once the euphoria had subsided, I felt sore in the ankles and knees and was stiffening up quickly. Hmmm - time for a walk to a friends house, a nice hot shower and into dry clothes.
Thanks to MacMillan Caring Locally for the opportunity to run this race and for organising the perfect weather - cloudless blue sky, minimal wind and cool enough not to get dehydrated. Will I be back next year - I will let you know in a couple of weeks!
Why did I enter in the first place - see my original blog below.
I am running - well trundling/ crawling - for 10 miles in The Great South Run on 24 October 2010. For reasons which seemed eminently sensible when I thought about it in the euphoria after I crawled in about 10 places from last in the Easter 2010 1/4 marathon, I decided to "up my game" and do something which is a challenge to me and of benefit to a charity which I consider to be of day to day practical benefit.
For this reason, I have decided to run in aid of Macmillan Caring Locally. This is the charity which supports the palliative care unit at Christchurch Hospital. It also provides funds for nursing and equipment to help patient treatment and comfort both in hospital and at home. Because of my connection to Macmillan Caring Locally (Brian is the treasurer) I have seen some of the good things it does both for the patients and for their family and friends. Obviously we all hope that a cure can be found for cancer, but in the meantime Macmillan Caring Locally does provide practical support for the patients and their family and friends.
I hope you will support me on my quest to raise funds for this worthwhile cause.
