Story
In 2005 I completed the Great North Run (GNR) with my family there for support. My Dad, Mum and other family members waited at the finish line as myself and my two cousins completed the run.....
5 years ago I trained for GNR following my Dads diagnosis of severe COPD and an inoperable (due to the severity of the COPD) brain tumour. Sadly I was unable to take part as I fractured my hip and tore my labrum during training. Since then I have had to go back to square one to strengthen and rehabilitate, and in doing so (despite advice to the contrary) I have gone on to complete a couple of half marathons. Now a few years later I am preparing for the very special 40th anniversary GNR. My Dad wont be able to cheer me on this year as he sadly passed away last year.
This years GNR absolutely terrifies me as there has been a course change-making this event even more challenging.
I just hope I can raise some money to try and make a difference to those suffering with COPD and other lung conditions-particularly having witnessed how debilitating and cruel these conditions can be.
1 in 5 people in the UK has a lung condition. That means 10,000 new diagnoses per week. I'm running for the British Lung Foundation, the only UK charity looking after the nation's lungs. Every pound I'm able to raise will take us a step closer to a world without lung disease. Just £8 allows one of the BLF's nurses to answer a call on the Helpline, offering support to someone in need. I'd be very grateful for any donations you could make!
Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
