Story
Ok, so we've both done some crazy stuff in the past, but I think this has to be up there amongst the craziest!
Steve and I have only met each other once, (at an indoor rowing race!) but we both have the same rowing coach and both have an addiction. Indoor rowing.
On 23rd May 2010, during the Farnborough Indoor Rowing Competition weekend, we are going to attempt to row our way into the world record books by completing 100 kilometres in a tandem row. This entails setting up 100,000 metres on the rower and rowing until it gets to zero. We are still working out the detail of how we will go about this, but our current thoughts are that we will row for 5 minutes, jump off quickly and then rest for 5 minutes while the other rows.
For anyone who has ever been on an indoor rower (also known as an erg), you will know that after 5 minutes, you don't want to do anything but lie down. We think it will take us between 7 and 8 hours to complete. That is a lot of 5 minute rows!
Even with a bit of imagination, neither of us could really be described as 'endurance athletes'. So this is really going to be a challenge for us both.
We have managed to secure sponsorship from Reflex Nutrition, who have kindly agreed to supply us with the sports nutrition required to get through such a feat.
Our lives have both been affected by cancer and as such we thought we should take the opportunity to try to raise some money for such a good cause as Cancer Research.
Please think about sponsoring us. Actually, no. Don't just think about it. Do it now, before you go and make a cuppa and forget about it. Please. I promise you, it will hurt us more than it will hurt you.
Thank you.
Jo and Steve.
