Story

To celebrate Survival International's 50th anniversary, Routes and Boots Africa Ltd, an outdoor adventure sporting company, has organised a 9 day trek through the Northern Circuit Route on the majestic Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise money for Survival's groundbreaking work to help tribal peoples defend their lives, protect their lands and determine their own futures.

As outdoor enthusiasts we feel strongly about the rights of tribal peoples and support a world where they are respected and valued as contemporary societies. Tribal peoples have been managing and conserving the biodiversity of their lands for time immemorial, and we are joining the fight to ensure that all tribal peoples are awarded their land rights, and are able to manage and maintain the richness of their environments as they have been doing for millennia.

To support Survival’s 50th anniversary of making our world a better place for tribal peoples, Jadie McDonnell, Alkarim Versi, Debbie Tyler and Fanny Nyembwe will complete the longest route on Mt. Kilimanjaro- the 9 day Northern Circuit Route. Our trek will ascend from the western slope of Kibo commencing at the Londorossi Gate, and follows the Lemosho Route for the first two days. After crossing the Shira Plateau the path moves north near Lava Tower, following the longer Northern Circuit instead of the more popular Southern Circuit via Barranco Valley, then following the Lemosho Route to approach the summit via Gilman’s Point and then either descend via the Mweka Route. Our trek is a nine day climb and is the longest route on Kilimanjaro both in terms of time and distance.

We welcome you to join the trek or donate money to celebrate 50 years of Survival International's amazing work to help stop the annihilation of tribal peoples.

Thanks!
