Story

Introduction:

This year the both of us are running the London marathon on 02/10/22 for the charity Sense, which is for those who suffer with complex disabilities. To help raise money we are calling on the generosity of the people to spare some money for this great cause and to aid the raising of the money we will be undertaking multiple challenges along the way. Our aim is to raise £4000. We are both excited by the challenge that lays ahead and cannot wait to begin.

Joshes reason for fundraising for sense:

I decided to fundraise for sense because it is an amazing charity, helping those living with complex disabilities. I have had prior experience of working with people who have complex disabilities, so to be able to give back in a unique way is something I’m very much looking forward to, as more awareness around this prevalent issue is required. I previously ran for Sense in the 2021 London marathon, which took me 4.55hrs, it was tough last year but I am as determined as ever to beat this time come October 2nd.

Harry’s reason for fundraising for sense:

I am fundraising for Sense because it offers an exceptional way for people with complex disabilities to improve their quality of life. As a physiotherapist I have been able to see first-hand the multi-faceted impact that complex disability can have not only on the individual, but also on the family and friends that help support that individual.

Why?

To be able to raise awareness to this charity for what it provides and secondly to raise £4000 for a charity that could have such a great impact on multiple people’s lives is something that we both believe to be vitally important.

The story:

This will be Harry’s first marathon and Joshes second marathon, arguably the biggest challenges we have both faced to date when competing as a team, which will take place on the 02/10/22. We both aim to complete the marathon in sub 4hrs, which we would be extremely proud of. By doing this we have the overall aim of raising money for a great cause and therefore ask that if you can spare a few pounds to help us reach our target it would be greatly appreciated.

To help raise money we will be undertaking several challenges along the way including:

- Long distance walk/ trek

- The Richmond half-marathon (17/04/22) COMPLETED

- Many 10k events around London before Oct

- Boxing charity event (Josh only).

-Great south run (2 weeks after London marathon)

- London to Brighton bike ride  (11/09/22)

- Sky Dive (Josh,Harry,Ben) (August)

- Spartan 5km obstacle race

- TSFE Fan Dance Trinity edition (18th-19th June) - This challenge is part of the infamous selection process for UK special forces and something we both have aspirations of completing. This event is a 24km route over Pen y Fan in Brecon and is described as the following, "The Fan Dance is a challenge that begins as soon as the race does with an immediate ascent of Pen y Fan which is 2,907 feet (886 m). The route then descends on the other side of the peak with a pathed route to the halfway point before turning around and reversing the route. The return leg provides an even tougher challenge with the evil ascent back up the Fan known as Jacob’s Ladder". As if this is not enough, we will have to do this three times; once during Saturday daytime, overnight and again on Sunday. To top this all off we will be sporting a 35lb bergen on our backs.

- We will also be providing updates about new challenges that we find.

- Lastly, for a minimum donation of £15 we are willing to do any physically demanding challenge, like the ones above, that people think would be a tough challenge (within the UK). You can suggest challenges when providing a donation (if the challenges could be as cost effective as possible that would be great!). We are saying this at our own peril, but bring it on...  if you want to join us on any of the challenges you are more than welcome, the more the merrier!

Your generosity is much appreciated!
