Story
At the beginning of this year our family was rocked when my Auntie had a freak accident and fell down the stairs at home. The fall resulted in her dislocating her neck and severely damaging her spinal cord.
We were told she may never walk again – or even worse! If she did make it through the lifesaving operations, whatever stage she was at within the next 18 months would be the best we could hope for. Thanks to the amazing staff at The Princess Royal Spinal Injuries Unit at Sheffield's Northern General Hospital my Auntie Sue - a wife, mother and Grandma to 3 (at the time, now 4!) never gave up and pushed herself every day to get better. To the amazement of the doctors, nurses, family and friends she was able to move her legs, sit up, stand up and eventually with a frame then crutches take steps that we thought may never come. Most recently she has been able to once again pick her Grandkids up, something that at one point looked like would never happen again.
It is because of my Auntie Sue’s strength, determination and will to never give up I will be running the Rother Valley Marathon then the Rother Valley 10k immediately after, a total of 32.2 miles on Saturday 17 November. Then the following day I will be on the start line for the Rother Valley Half Marathon making a total of 45.3 miles in 2 days all to raise money for the incredible work The Princess Royal Spinal Injuries Unit at Sheffield's Northern General Hospital do.
Please spare whatever you can to support the truly wonderful work The Princess Royal Spinal Injuries Unit do.
The Princess Royal Spinal Injuries Unit at Sheffield's Northern General Hospital treats patients who have injured their spinal cord. It is the second largest specialist centre in the country and provides surgery, therapy and rehabilitation.
Each year, Sheffield Hospitals Charity aim to continuously improve the quality of care and treatment available to our patients on the Spinal Injuries Unit, but to do this they do need your help.
Thank you for your support…x
