Having already set up a successful crowd funding appeal to support the the rural communities in Bwindi Uganda during the Covid-19 Lockdown, I am delighted that the Rotary Club of Portlethen & District have kindly agreed to join the fundraising campaign, working with the Kabale Rotary Club in Uganda and the Buhoma Mukono Community Development Association to coordinate food distribution in the community.

In Uganda coronavirus has, like the UK, led to the loss of many jobs especially in the tourist industry. One of the hardest hit is Buhoma where 80% of the population's livelihoods were dependent on supporting people to go gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Many families are going without food. Hunger and starvation are real issues and there is an ever increasing worry that villagers will have to turn to the rainforest for bush meat to feed their children. This threatens local wildlife and fragile ecosystems.
