We are embarking on an epic challenge for us both. Neither of us are into running - i have a love affair with the idea of how it should feel, but the reality is somewhat different! Having never run further than a 10 minute puff around the park, this is a serious challenge of mental determination for myself. In the years i have supported runners in the marathon, it has always moved me - it is not the race, its the collective 'togetherness' - the human heart pushing the human mind to overcome pain, exhaustion and barriers in order to raise awareness for worthwhile causes. 

Benjy, well for those who know him well, will know that he is not in any form of physical practice... Until recently and is now focusing hard on building stamina and running up to 40k per week, with the eye on the prize being April 24th... the wind in his hair as he runs will represent more than just exhilaration and sense of achievement, it is a mark of personal resilience, freedom and opportunity. Benjy has also traveled extensively in South America and is passionate about preserving its future!

The Rainforest Foundation UK are doing incredible work conserving land and fighting for homes... from protecting the rights of the indigenous peoples in the Peruvian Amazon, to mapping and forest governance in the Congo Basin. So far 12,000,000 hectares of rainforest has been protected by the Rainforest Foundation, and counting. 

Two-thirds of the world's wildlife species are found in tropical rainforests - it is the habitat of many endangered species and species found nowhere else on the planet. Compounds derived from tropical plant species have been used in successful anti-cancer treatments. However, livestock production is responsible for 70% of Amazon deforestation and is the second largest form of climate change - the loss of natural forests contributes more to global carbon emissions each year than the transport sector.  

The future of our beautiful home is beyond fragile and who knows what the future looks like for our children and our children's children (if we are fortunate to survive this far). Please if it's important to you to help conserve this incredible world we were gifted, please consider giving a little back to it!
