Story
I know first hand the positive impact dogs can have on peoples lives. Dogs for Autism are a great charity training their dogs to fit the specific needs of every autistic client and their family.
This is done through methods such as -
- Tethering via a ’tummy lead’ harness or second dog lead to encourage calm and settled walking behaviour outside of the home.
- Deep pressure work to help regulate the proprioceptive system and reduce anxiety.
- communication games to encourage social engagement, speech and language and social confidence.
- Settling behaviours to promote relaxation and self-regulation.
Alongside the things you can’t measure such as intuitive comfort, unconditional friendship, fun, laughter and love.
It costs in excess of £20,000 to train and support each dog, and the charity relies entirely on donations. I would be really grateful for any help you may feel able to provide to help support this great cause!
Thank you.
