Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I dont usually ask people for money and this is actually the first time that I have ever completed an event for a charity.

In Febuary of this year, my mother in law Ann Hulley lost her long fight with cancer.

As you can imagine, this was devastating for the whole family, however, Ann spent the last few weeks of her life in the wonderful care of the Marie Curie nurses in Holme Towers, Penarth.

I can not start to tell you how amasing the staff in Holme Towers are. The care and attention that that they give each person in the last few weeks and days of their lives allow them to pass away peacefully, respectfully, in no pain and with their family around them.

This dosnt come cheap. I believe that it costs somewhere in the region of £300 -£400 per night for this level of care at Holme Towers and the staff do not ask for a penny from the patients or families involved.

I have decided to support Marie Curie this year in memory of Ann and hope that the money that I can raise will be able to support the staff in continuing to care for other people like Ann in their last few days.

So ive decided to run the Cardiff Half Marathon this year and raise money for Marie Curie.

"Thats easy Ross, you were a personal trainer" you may say.

You are right, I was.  Last Christmas was 6 years since I was a PT and I am ashamed to say that I had eaten my way to 17.7 stone!!

So, this half marathon will help raise money for a great charity and get my ass in shape.  My aim is to complete the half in 1 hr 50 minutes.  My PB when I was a PT was 1.43hrs.

I hope to raise the £300 that it costs to pay for 1 days care at Holme Towers this year and would really appreciate any donations that you make.

As a little incentive, If I raise the £300 from donations, I will personally donate £100.  see, not the tight Scotsman that some of you think I am!!

I wont just be doing the Half this year. I aim to run as many 10km runs as possible and may even do some of the silly fitness events in Wales as well.

I will keep everyone up to date with how I am getting on via this page and when I am taking parts in events.  Even if you can donate 50p for each event it is a really big help.

All I can say is THANK YOU for supporting me an MARIE CURIE this year.

Kind Regards

Ross
