Rosie B does The West Island Way

The West Island Way · 1 September 2014
6 months ago, I received the first bone marrow transplant for the treatment of multiple sclerosis in Scotland.
I have severe relapsing-remitting MS which was becoming untreatable - this time last year I was paralyzed from the waist down and was practically blind in one eye. Luckily for me my amazing neurologist, along with haematology doctors from the Beatson Cancer Centre fought for me to have this treatment.
This is not something which is suitable for everyone with MS - I was only approved because my MS was so severe and aggressive even though I was still in the early stages of my disease. It was not something that I undertook likely - I had to sign a waiver saying that I acknowledged that I may not survive the procedure.
Needless to say, I survived, and as you may guess from the challenge I have set myself I am no longer in a wheelchair!
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. With more funding for research into MS, perhaps a cure for this awful disease will one day be found.
http://www.justgiving.com/RosieBarnes1 I have also set up a page to raise money for the Beatson Cancer Charity - I am walking 54 miles in 24 hours next June, The West Island Way challenge will form part of my training for this.
