Story
Next month I am going to be sleeping out for the night to raise money for the homeless and vulnerable people that we see every day on the streets in Brighton and Hove.
Why am I doing this? Because I love this city. Home is incredibly important to me, I love my creature comforts and feeling safe and secure is vital to my happiness, and my heart breaks seeing people sleeping on the actual street. I think there's more everyone can be doing to help - and although one night out in the cold is nothing in comparison, I hope to raise as much money as possible for those who have to do it every day.
I have volunteered for the Clocktower Sanctuary for a couple of years and through them found out about Galvanise - a community-led campaign with local people working together to end rough sleeping by 2020. I did some work with them last year and this is the second phase of the campaign's activity. I really hate talking about this part of my life as it feels a bit humble braggy and awkward (to me) but it's so important to raise awareness of all the amazing organisations that are doing so much to tackle the problem.
Half the funds this year are going to Galvanise and half to the YMCA DLG's Life Change fund, so the more money we raise, the more homeless people can be homed and young people given the opportunity to better their lives.
