London Marathon 2018 · 22 April 2018 ·

Motor Neurone Disease moves fast. It takes away time, it takes away independence and it has no cure. Every day we support people affected by MND. We fund ground-breaking research. We campaign for better care. We’re here for everyone who needs us. Because with MND, every day matters.

Story

As you may or may not know, My Dad was sadly diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in December 2016. As soon as he told me I had to google it. Despite the ice bucket challenge for ALS/MND going viral a few years ago, I still didn't have much clue about the symptoms, causes or what the future may entail.

Simply put, MND is a progressive disease which affects the nerves in the brain and spinal cord. Overtime messages stop reaching the muscles within the body which causes stiffening and muscle wasting. Its a complex illness and there are various different forms of MND, which means people can be effected in many different ways. Certain symptoms can be managed to help increase quality of life but unfortunately, at present, there is no cure.

MND affects approximately 5000 adults in the UK at any one time, it is therefore considered a relatively rare disease.

All money raised for the MND Association goes towards funding and promoting research, improving care and support for people living with MND, as well as campaigning and raising awareness.

I am running the marathon in honour of my dad, as well as all of the other people who have ever been affected by MND. All donations, however small, will be greatly appreciated and will be one step closer to me achieving my gigantic target .... (which I need to raise every penny of by the way!!) Thank you, Rosie x
