Story
I am so excited to be running the London Marathon again after 4 years... and to finally be able to continue my humble bragging about competing in the marathon. Please don't unfriend me.
2018 London Marathon was a doozie. Training in the 'beast from the east' winter, to running in the hottest marathon they've had on record. Despite finishing, I've since felt that I've had unfinished business with this challenge. My goal is to be able to compete this year injuryless, without melting with the strength at the end to actually hold the medal...
When I read about Time & Talents and the fantastic work they do connecting people in the community I knew this was a charity I wanted to get behind. Whenever I hear stories of people suffering with loneliness I feel desperately saddened. It seems unfathomable that people can feel isolated and helpless when we have so many means of communication today. Working as a trainee counsellor now, I am incredibly passionate about communication and supporting those struggling with their mental health.
Below is some information about them, but please also head to their website to find out more. I would so appreciate anything you can spare to help me towards my fundraising target. Your support really will help me get over the line!
'Based in the heart of Rotherhithe in South East London, Time & Talents provides vital support, fun and friendship to local kids, families and older people. We offer everything from befriending and social support for isolated older adults, to gardening clubs, groups for stroke survivors and visually impaired adults, and kids holiday clubs. We deeply value our community, and work hard to help everyone feel valued, connected and included. Our wonderful London Marathon runners help us to raise much-needed funds, all of which go directly into our community programmes. We will spend every pound on fighting the isolation experienced by so many older people, and on supporting kids and families bearing the brunt of years of government cuts and reduced services. With your generous help, we can keep being a much-loved community hub, and keep working to build a happier, healthier community where no one feels left behind.'
