When mum was diagnosed with a brain tumour on 13th March 2012, we had no way of knowing that her death would come so soon. It has been a shocking and traumatic time for all of us. When the doctors told us on wednesday 25th April that there was nothing more they could do for her and that there was a chance she wouldn't make it through that night, my sister and I (along with two of mum's closest friends) held vigil by her bedside in the hospital all night. The next day, she was still with us and we began the arrangements to get her home to her own home. Helen's trust provided a carer to come and sit with mum through the night so that we could try to get some rest. The women who came, that very day, Debbie and Jayne, were incredible women. They were gentle, kind, empathic and warm. They helped us understand what was happening and cared for mum so sensitively. They supported us when we felt desperate and laughed with us when we could laugh. Their help was invaluable to us and we want to be able to support the charity so that others can have the chance we had. it cost £540 to fund Debbie and Jayne to come for four nights and so this is the target that we would like to raise.. at the very least.
Having mum at home for those last few days, meant that we could play her favourite music, open her window so she could hear the birds, we could read poetry to her and sing to her, as well as the beauty of being able to climb into bed with her and hold her.
Thank you Helen's Trust.

Helen's Trust are an incredible charity who help incurably ill people stay in their own home.
The trust aims to help remove the barriers that may be preventing a person from staying at home by funding and providing care and equipment. Some examples of things we have provided in the past are:
- Packages of care which meet individuals needs.
- Equipment, such as a stairlift to enable someone to be able to go to up to bed.
- Transport to and from hospital appointments to enable the person to stay at home.
- In many cases it is small things that make a big difference.
They support anyone within our current geographical remit. We are not bound by age, sex or type of illness and nor do we carry out any form of means testing.
