Story
The important bit.
I am determined to get a sub 2hr time and would welcome any support you can give. Jamie's Farm is a great charity that aims to make a real difference by helping vulnerable children. Please donate whatever you can afford, be it £10, £5 or the cost of a drink at your local. Every pound helps!
The anecdote.
My last attempt to run a half marathon (see photo) ended in the disastrous time of 2:38 min. I know what you are thinking - how could such a sporty fit man such as myself take such a long time to run a half marathon? And you're right to think it. Well this is the answer - I had no idea I was doing it till the opportunity literally knocked on my door at 10am on a Sunday morning and presented itself. Most people would have crawled back into bed, but I am not most people, for I am a carpe diem man!
With just 5 hrs sleep, a pounding headache, two slices of toast in my belly and may I add, no training! I raced across London to Windsor Park where at 3pm I and my friend Carla set off. Unfortunately, owing to the M4 being closed we were an hour late to start.
But the real tragedy is that unlike the clever Carla, who skipped the inner lap and continued with the main pack on to the 2nd lap, I turned off and endured a gruelling 10 mile solitary hell that included rain, wind and hallucinations. Needless to say, I think I know how Simon Pegg felt in the film Run Fat Boy Run.
