Did you know Domestic Abuse is NOT just about physical violence?

Domestic abuse can include, but is not limited to:

Coercive control (a pattern of intimidation, degradation, isolation and control with the use or threat of physical or sexual violence)

Psychological and/or emotional abuse

Physical or sexual abuse

Financial or economic abuse

Harassment and stalking

Online or digital abuse

I have been working closely with South Ayrshire Women's Aid for almost two years and I am not ashamed to say I am still undergoing therapy. Women's Aid have been so supportive in helping me close chapters of my life and rebuild myself as a person. I didn't realize just how low confidence I had developed, trust issues, fears. For years I couldn't take my son swimming because I couldn't cope with anyone so much as brushing by me. I have since took my son to the pool, not once BUT twice.

Did you know that the impact doesn't affect just the victim/survivor but their family and children? South Ayrshire Women's Aid have been so supportive to my child too when unfortunately other services in our area closed due to funding.

I am raising funds to ensure this service stays open not only for others like me but their children and families. £450 can help train professionals from the police to the judiciary to improve their response to domestic abuse. Sadly I have experienced the let down of these services but with the rights funds we can help stop this happening to the next person.
